Finnmarkssykehuset

Finnmarkssykehuset (which means “The Finnmark hospital”) has two main hospitals located in Hammerfest and Kirkenes. The health trust serves 74,000 people living in the county of Finnmark.

Due to vast distances, both hospitals have emergency medicine services with specialist surgery and obstetric care, as well as an extensive decentralised specialist health service which focuses on a close collaboration with the many community health centres in the county.

The ambulance service has 17 stations and operates by car, airplane, helicopter and boat.

Finnmarkssykehuset also includes psychiatric care and substance abuse services with six locations, including a Sami competence centre (SANKS) which has a special responsibility for the health care services for the indigenous Sami population.
